Hydroelectric Power Plant Kühtai - Längental Reservoir

Want to see something different? Visit the hydroelectric power plant Kühtai, situated in spectacular mountain scenery.

Hydroelectric power from the Alps - Längental and Finstertal Reservoirs

The power plant "Längental Reservoir" can be visited every Wednesday at 4 pm. The guided tour lasts for an hour.

Reservation (at least one day in advance) in one of the local tourist information offices is necessary, as the number of visitors is restricted (max. 15 people).

The group of power plants "Sellrain Silz" consists of the reservoir Finstertal with a capacity of 60 Million cubic metres. A dam of 149 metres/488 feet, made of 4.5 Million cubic metres of stones and moraine material, walls off the artificial lake.

During spring and summer, Finstertal reservoir is being filled by the Kühtai pumped-storage power station. In winter it is being emptied to generate electricity.
