Hiking can turn into a spiritual experience in the Sellrain Valley. Follow the path of pilgrims on a leg of the Way of St. James (also known as Camino de Santiago)...
Way of St. James/Camino de Santiago along the Sellrain valley
Of the many paths heading to Santiago de Compostela, the section leading through the Tyrol has always been of special significance.
Coming from Innsbruck, the pilgrim's way passes through Afling (Kematen). From the parish church of Kematen, it continues through "Himmelreich" ("Heaven"), following the edge of the woods. This section of the path offers a delightful view onto the Inn Valley and the "Martinswand", a famous rock face across the valley. The parish church of St. Victor is also worth a visit. The newly restored onion dome is the only one in the Tyrol which has three "onions"
Benches inviting for a break line the trail before it turns onto the road to Axams. Always keeping west, follow the road down until you reach the road to Sellrain.
After crossing the river "Melach", the pilgrim's way follows the edge of the forrest until you reach the road to Oberperfuss. The tree-lined road will bring you down to the next stop on the Way of St. James, Unterperfuss. From there, the path keeps to the west and continues towards the Arlberg Pass and Vorarlberg.
Distances:
- Völs – Afling (Kematen) ca. 3 km
- Kematen – Unterperfuss ca. 1 km
- Unterperfuss – Inzing ca. 6 km
