Blooming of alpine roses in the "Sellrain Valley"
From Mid-June to the end of July, the higher regions of the Sellrain Valley (above 1500m/4900ft) are covered in red and pink: The Alpine Roses are blooming. Many hiking paths and trails give you a chance to experience this natural event first hand.
Apart from being beautiful to look at, Alpine Roses have a delightful scent –an outing while they are blooming is indeed an experience for the senses!

Information about the Alpine Rose: Rhododendron ferrugineum, better known as "Rust-leaved Alpine Rose", belongs to the family of Ericaceae. The small shrub can reach a height 20 to 120 cm/approx. 8 – 48 inches. The leaves are glossy on the upside, but the underside is reddish-brown, giving the plant its name. The pink and red blooms are on the tips of the branches and are shaped like little funnels.
